For this sparking image taken under a south coast pier, the photographer employed a Speedlight flash, a pair of Maglites, LED light sticks, coloured gels and absolutely no Photoshop trickery. The photograph is taken straight from the camera, using exposures of up to thirty seconds.

20 stunning examples of portrait photography

Street typography involves not only advertising goal in the message but also aesthetics and design in the context of that message. It can be static with an information (e.g. a poster, caution sign) or dynamic that changes habitus of everyday city consumers (e.g. billboards, window shops).What is common to them is variety of design graphic, typography styles (most of them are Cyrillic) and the message. So let’s go outdoors and explore Serbian street scene in this context.

Plazma keks is one of the most famous Serbian brands – special unique kind of bisquit, similar to pettit beurre. Seen on bus station.

Beko was the famous department chain store in former Yugoslavia. it is interesting nowadays to see nostalgia historic leftovers from that time: Yugoslavian mementos and Beko’s Cyrillic logo. Seen in lower Dorcol, downtown Belgrade.

Wall ad, in Latin Serbian, offering kitchen elements to order, which is quite unusual to see in downtown of the city.

5 great photography projects by Philippe Toledano

I know, my title is kind of overused and everybody knows that an image is worth a thousand words, especially advertisers or politicians. In his presentation at TED, Chris Jordan proves once again the power of image over words to represent huge data and numbers.

Plastic Cups, 2008 – 60×90″ – Chris Jordan
Depicts one million plastic cups, the number used on airline flights in the US every six hours.

This photography artistic project can pretty much be taken as a form of militant infography. Instead of telling us the numbers, which will not lead to any reaction. On the contrary, these images are quite astonishing and are more likely to provoke action among viewers.

An image is worth a thousand words

I recently came across the results of a Photoshop contest: How to hide an elephant? The theme of the contest was based upon some jokes about elephants hiding that contestants should illustrate in their own ways.

It is always funny to see the results of such contests, they are often inspiring, especially when people share their sources and explain how they created the composition. When you see the best of those pictures, it makes you really wonder about the images you see in the medias.
