At the end of this post, you can find the documentary about torture that I just watched. You may think it’s a strange idea to share this kind of information on a design blog and you are probably right. However, there are two things that amazed me as a designer in this film:

  1. The amazing design of some ancient torture tools. Practical, multifunctional, they would be perfect pieces of design if they were not so wicked.
  2. After torture has been forbidden by the Geneva convention and went underground, the creativity of the torturers. Since they had no more legitimate tools to use, they appropriate themselves ordinary objects and turn them into terrifying torture devices. Just think about it if you have ever designed an object: how could it be used for torture?

If you want to take a look at the documentary, just beware that it is quite violent.
