DC Comics logo re-design

The recent re-design of the DC Comics’ logo was received with a lot of hate. I don’t really understand the reasons for hating it, as I find it quite successful. I like the simple version of the logo, but it the branding applications that are really awesome.

The issue for me is only that the C used in the revealed portion is far different typographically from using Gotham in the sub text. It just irks me to see two sans-serifs in contrast so closely.
Agree with Brady. That’s what struck me when I saw it first.
But apart from that I quite like the redesign.
I don’t like it, one can’t make out the D, i rather like the idea using the letters in different ways.
I like it!
I think it’s very symbolic of a boring exterior with a dramatic and exciting interior, much like that of a super hero hiding his identity.
This reminds me a little like the Discovery Channel logo I’ve recently seen: http://www.behance.net/gallery/Discovery-History-brand/1161643
I can’t stop seeing a yogurt or pudding cup reveal.
It’s very entertainment driven for sure… but… I tend to design logos by using in plain color and avoid using gradients.
I like the logo design. Its a nice idea to use D as like front page of comic is being opened….
