HP01

Starting in 2001, EA Games released a series of Harry Potter related video games at the rythm of almost one per year. The games were first released on PC, then on Xbox, PS and Wii (pretty much in that order).

What is lesser known is that, as early as 1998, Nintendo pitched a game concept based on the Harry Potter story to J.K. Rowling when she started thinking about selling the characters rights. After that announcement, the Nintendo teams stopped everything else and worked furiously on the project. They knew how successful the books were, so they probably had an idea of the potential income they could get out of this.

Apparently they did a presentation to Rowling, but the Manga/Japanese style didn’t cut it. Also, if Nintendo had won, the focus would have been on the game. Although they could have made the movies happen, it would have been secondary, and Rowling wanted to get a wide distribution.

Anyway, it never happened, so just enjoy the images in this post, they depict a game that will never see the light.
