We grew up with these characters. They were our companions through Saturday mornings, after-school hours, and countless rewatches. They feel eternal, untouched by time or mortality. But what if they were not?

Artist Filip Hodas has taken that unsettling question and turned it into a striking series of illustrations. He has reimagined beloved animated characters as anatomically correct skulls, preserving the iconic details that make them instantly recognizable while stripping away everything else. A hat. A pair of glasses. A familiar silhouette. What remains is something both playful and haunting.

Each piece is presented as if it belongs in a natural history museum, complete with invented scientific names that lend the work an air of scholarly seriousness. The result is a virtual exhibition of the familiar turned strange, a collection that asks us to look at characters we thought we knew in a completely new way.

The series has evolved over time, with new specimens added to the collection. The images below represent the most current and complete version of the project.
