Don’t steal, it’s bad



Are you a stressed designer thinking about taking someone else’s idea or concept? Forget it right away or Joe La Pompe will find you and point his finger at you, throwing shame at you for a very long time.

The problem with all of this is that while stealing an idea might be plagiarism, it isn’t copyright infringement. Also, ideas can be independently created and two works can look very similar though no plagiarism took place.
I make it a point on my site not to cover these types of scandals just because they are often so ambiguous and can lead to problems with defamation. I applaud what La Pompe is doing, but I worry about the legal implications if one is wrong.
Sure, many of those cases are pretty damming, but some leave room for interpretation.

I agree with you Jonathan, these designs might often have been created independantly from the originals. Anyway I think that the work done by Joe la Pompe is amazing and I hope they won’t get in any kind of legal problems.
