Even the most creative of us find themselves at that moment when, no matter what you do, you can’t seem to find the energy and motivation to finish your creative work. Whether it’s web designing, writing, painting, or developing an app, you need to get those creative juices flowing, if you want to finish a project.

Experiencing a creative block shouldn’t be alarming; it happens to the best of us! It’s what you do to get that creative appetite back that really matters.

The first thing you need to do when you find yourself fighting a creative block is to step back from the desk and relax. There is no point in pushing yourself, as you will only end up getting frustrated. Step back from your workspace, take a deep breath, and focus on something else. There are multiple ways to get your creative juices flowing again. If you don’t know where to start, follow the tips below to get your creative spark back.

Switch to another creative activity

If your current project is not taking out the best in you, put it on pause and try another creative activity instead. Even if you are working in a creative field, doing the same thing every day can end up feeling tedious, so mix things up a bit.

Are you a graphic designer? Pick up a brush and a canvas and start painting. It can be anything that crosses your mind, or you can just play with colors on a canvas without a main purpose in mind. Writing a short story, painting, or doing any type of creative activity that is different from what you normally do will help put your brain’s gears into motion again.

You don’t even need to be good at something else. Just have fun and experiment with it. Remember that the main purpose is to have fun and relax. Relaxation brings mindfulness and mindfulness is one of the key elements of creativity.

Take a break and do some cleaning

Contrary to what many people believe, setting your work aside for a while and doing some cleaning is not procrastination. Cleaning can help refresh your brain and make you feel useful, which is very important when nothing else seems to be working the right way.

You don’t need to start cleaning the house from top to bottom. Just do some laundry, wash some dishes, or durst the furniture. It’s enough to get your mind off things and trick your brain into feeling it’s actually accomplished something.

For me, doing the dishes has some sort of a relaxing effect. It’s just me and a bunch of plates that need to be sparkling clean, and nothing else I need to think about. By the time I am done, a new idea will surely pop my mind, which is enough to get my creative spark back.

Get outside for a walk

Fresh air and a change of scenery can do wonderful things to your brain, so take your headphones, put on some good music and go for a walk. Don’t think of the work you have to do when you get back home and simply enjoy the moment. Walk around the block or go to the nearest park and sit on a bench for a few minutes.

Observe the trees, the buildings, the people, and listen to the sound of the city. Inspiration is everywhere and you never know what’s waiting for you just around the block. A walk outside, breathing in some fresh air, will help release endorphins, which are a proven happiness booster. And happiness is known to nurture the most beautiful type of creativity.

Give your brain a boost

I order for your brain to be creative, it needs to be fueled up, but how do you do that? You can start by making some changes in your diet and ensuring you give your brain the right nutrients to thrive. Particular foods such as spinach, broccoli, kale, and berries can help boost cognitive function and give your brain the power it needs.

Another way to give your brain a much-needed push is to use some nootropics. Nootropics are cognitive enhancing supplements that help boost cognitive function, memory, motivation, and creativity. One such supplement is CBD, which has been the buzz of the town recently.

One great advantage of CBD products is that they come in many ways. You can find it in oils and tinctures, capsules, edibles, and CBD kief, which is a powder obtained from the resin glands from unpollinated hemp flowers. Kief can be used to infuse foods, and what better way to put your creativity to work than by cooking something delicious?

Let others inspire you

When you feel too fed up with your work, one of the best ways to reignite the spark is by allowing others to inspire you. Go to a museum, listen to some good music or read some poems you like. For instance, if you are a writer, pick up a book you haven’t read in a while or go online and explore personal narratives and opinion pieces to get your juices flowing.

If you don’t feel like getting out of the house, go on YouTube, and watch some creative talks. Listening to other people’s ideas, projects, and what inspires them can help bring back the same things inside yourself.

Surround yourself with creative works and watch your creativity coming right back to you. It’s not cheating, it’s just getting yourself in the right mindset.

Sometimes it helps to do nothing at all

Do you ever wish you could just lay somewhere and do absolutely nothing at all? What’s stopping you? Doing nothing can sometimes prove to be more powerful than anything else. There are times when your brain needs a break to be able to sort through all those chains of thoughts, so give it the means to do so.

Find a comfortable place and do nothing at all. Simply sit there and let your mind run wild. Chances are, after some moments of complete chaos, things will start to fall into place. Your brain knows what it needs to do, but it can get distracted sometimes. Allow it to rest, take things slow and you will start feeling those creative rivers flowing again.
